To Trust the Process You Must Understand the Process

The Death card represents endings, transformation, and new beginnings. It reminds us that transformation is a PROCESS, and every stage of that process requires something different.

The journey from caterpillar to butterfly gives us a beautiful way to understand what death, transformation, and rebirth can look like. Before the caterpillar ever enters the chrysalis, there is a period of PREPARATION. The caterpillar’s job is to eat, grow, and do what is necessary to prepare for rebirth.

In life, this can be a period of gathering information, making plans, learning, preparing, and getting clear about what needs to happen next. The work is being done, even though the transformation has not fully begun yet.

But eventually, preparation has to lead to a DECISION.

The caterpillar cannot become a butterfly while continuing to live as a caterpillar. In order for something new to emerge, the old version has to come to an END.

THEN comes the chrysalis.

From the outside, everything appears STILL. It can look like nothing is happening, but inside, the transformation IS taking place. This can be one of the hardest stages to understand because stillness can make it feel like progress has stopped.

Sometimes, stillness is part of the work. There are seasons when the next part of the process requires PATIENCE. Things ARE changing, even when there is nothing visible yet to prove it.

Then there comes the moment when the butterfly is ready to emerge.

The transformation has happened, but getting out still requires EFFORT. There is pressure. There is struggle. The butterfly has to BREAK THROUGH the very thing that protected it while the transformation was taking place.

Life can have moments like that too. There comes a point in every transformation when waiting is no longer the next step. The time for being still is over, and the next part of the journey requires the EFFORT to break through.

And even after the butterfly breaks free, it doesn’t immediately fly away. It RESTS while its wings become strong enough to fly.

The Death card reminds us that every transformation moves through stages. For some, this is a time of PREPARATION. For others, it is a time to be STILL while the transformation takes place. Some are feeling the pressure of BREAKING THROUGH, while others have already EMERGED and are figuring out what comes next now that the hard part is behind them.

When we understand where we are in the process, it becomes easier to know what to do next.
